Let’s Speculate About Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire: Mega Evolutions, New Story and Volcanion
Let’s Speculate About Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire: Mega Evolutions, New Story and Volcanion.
With the announcement of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire – 3DS owners are almost certain to have an excellent year of quality games to play. Unfortunately, Game Freaks has not revealed a great deal of worthy information on Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, especially for ravenous fans that are hungry for more. Obviously, Nintendo will be revealing more during the Nintendo Digital Event at E3 2014. Until that time comes – let’s have fun speculating about the new game.

More Than A Typical Pokemon Remake.
I’ve been speaking to some fervent Pokémon fans, and most agree that there is a possibility that Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire will not be a typical remake of the same fashion as LeafGreen/FireRed or HeartGold/SoulSilver. Going by the rhetoric showcased during the announcement trailer, Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will be “an epic new adventure” and will feature “a new world.” An epic new adventure? Featuring a new world? This certainly sounds more than a typical remake.

Reimagined HOENN
Firstly, the “New World” statement quite obviously means a re-imagination of Hoenn region using the new engine introduced in X&Y. However, I suspect Game Freaks might be doing some reworking on the world – mainly cutting down the diving/surfing area’s that constituted a large part of the second half of the original game. And perhaps, adding a few more landmarks while they are at it. I believe Game freak will follow Nintendo’s suite with remakes, by offering a notable upgrade without losing the familiarity of the source material.

Mega Evolution Galore
Pokémon has evolved significantly since generation 3 – especially with the addition of dream world abilities, the new fairy type and the super Mega Evolutions. Firstly, I honestly believe Mega Evolutions will play a large part in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. If you haven’t noticed – a large proportion of the current Mega Evolved rooster consist of generation 3 Pokemon. There is Mega Blaziken, Mega Manectric, Mega Bannette, Mega Absol, Mega Mawile, Mega Medicham and Mega Gardevoir – all of whom – originated in Ruby and Sapphire. In addition, we do know that Mega Latios and Mega Latias exist in Pokémon X&Y as discovered by a hacker. So I fully expect Mega Evolutions to play a part in the game in some capacity.

Kyogre/ Groudon and Volcanion
Furthermore, Kyogre and Groudon look strangely different in the box art of Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire than from their usual form. I checked the first footage Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire to check whether Kyogre and Groudron are sporting this new look, however, the duo are shown in their usual self. No doubt, there is some special about the yellow ring/glow, which is yet to be revealed – to merely dismiss this clue as mere box art is disingenuous – this was a deliberate move by Game Freaks to get fans to talk about the game and the mystery behind it.
In addition, I have a little hypothesis that the unannounced Pokemon – Volcanion is related to the new game. The driving theme of Ruby and Sapphire was the creation of land mass – that is when fire meets water, which essentially gave birth to the concept of Kyogre and Groudon. From a basic understanding of geological process – volcanoes are pertinent to formation of landmass, essentially when fire meets water, this is where the volcano Pokémon, Volcanion fits in the motif of Ruby and Sapphire. I reckon Volcanion will be woven into the story, as a fourth player in the battle between Kyogre, Groudon and Rayquaza. The volcano inspired Pokémon with one of a kind type combination Fire and Water appears to be created with the release of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire in mind. Coincidence? I think not.
