The internet went into speculative mode when Matt Ryan of Nintendo Canada briefly mentioned that Rayman was one of the newly playable characters in Super Smash Bros For Wii U/3DS. Naturally, Smash Fans and the Nintendo community went into a frenzy, excited by the prospect of playing Ubisofts mascot.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but it turns out that the statement was a simple slip of the tongue. Nintendo of Canada has clarified that Matt Ryan was referring to the previous announced Rayman Trophy in Super Smash Bros For Wii U/3DS.

Nintendo of Canada has issued this statement to GoNintendo:

“In the recent interview in Canada about Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Rayman was mentioned, and this was referring to the previously announced Rayman trophy in the game.”

For those who are holding onto hope – Nintendo of Canada’s statement has not definitively ruled out the possibility of Rayman being a playable character. I am certainly holding onto the small thread of hope. My advice is to keep your expectations in check and prepare yourself for disappointment. Well, that’s how I will condition myself to think.

What are your thoughts on the situation? Are you holding onto the possibility that Rayman will eventually be announced? Let me know!

Thanks GoNintendo
