yo-kai watch 2 gero gero bou Level-5 are laughing all the way to the bank largely thanks to the runaway success of Yo-Kai Watch 2 in Japan. Last month,I reported that Yo-kai Watch 2 had a monstrous opening week selling through 1.3 million units.

With most games sales are typically front loaded with numbers quickly dissipating during the weeks after the launch. Luckily, for Level-5 and Nintendo this hasn’t been the case, as Yo-Kai Watch 2 has continued its run of impressive sales. Famitsu has confirmed that Level-5 has shipped 2 million units of Yo-kai Watch 2, within the first 3 weeks. Considering that very few franchises reach the 1 million lifetime sales in Japan, shipping 2 million units with the first 3 weeks is an impressive feat. From the top of my head, only Pokemon and Monster Hunter can muster better sales.

The only looming question is whether Level-5 and Nintendo can replicate the same Yo-kai Watch phenomenon in the west.  The 3DS is in dire need of a second win, and Nintendo is still searching for the next big thing to revive momentum, so it is definitely worth taking the risk with the franchising. Who knows Yo-kai Watch can be the next Pokemon!
