Nintendo Sponsoring Evo 2014
Nintendo has an infamous reputation when it comes to supporting the Super Smash Bros competitive scene. Last year the big N got themselves into hot water – when they attempted to shut not only the Super Smash Bros Melee stream, but the entire Melee tournament. Fortunately, the BAD PR and fan backlash were enough to stop Nintendo on their tracks.
Since then Nintendo has turned over a new leaf – supporting and encouraging the Super Smash Bros competitive scene – by first, allowing Super Smash Bros Melee to be in Evo 2014 back in March, then hosting the Smash Invitational at E3 2014, and now it appears they are official sponsors of EVO 2014.
The Official Evo website lists Nintendo as an official sponsor of the event. Looking at Nintendo’s past history, it may be a little hard to believe, but it is true – Nintendo is sponsoring EVO 2014. Nintendo joins the likes of Microsoft, Twitch, Namco Bandai games and even IGN as supporters of this great fighting shindig. Evo broadcasts to a wide audience – it is the perfect opportunity to promote the Super Smash Bros Franchise – especially since Super Smash Bros For 3DS and Super Smash Bros For Wii U are launching later this year. It is correct to assume that this is a strategical move – to position themselves well, to sell the Super Smash Bros twins later in holiday season.
Good Job Nintendo!
