Was Mr Sakurai Showcasing The NFC Figurines During The Super Smash Bros Direct?

I have been dwelling on this thought for a while. Now that NFC has been officially confirmed to be implemented in Super Smash Bros For Wii U. I went back to check my hypothesis, to confirm or disprove my hypothesis. Guess what?  I am on to something.

During the fantastic Super Smash Bros Nintendo Direct – I do believe Mr Sakurai was showcasing the NFC Figurines in the video. Cheeky Sakurai! You can’t fool these eyes. If you check out the screen captures below stolen from the direct – Sakurai is  holding a Yoshi and Mega Man figurine.

The manner in which Sakurai is showcasing these figurines to the audience certainly hints of great importance. Besides, I don’t find this to be coincidental. I honestly believe these are the NFC figurines used for the Super Smash Bros game.

What are your thoughts? Am I on to something? Or merely looking to deep?

    I dunno….
I’d expect NFC figures to have some sort of base that they’re attached to, where the chip can be placed, so that the figure can stand flat on the game pad to be appropriately scanned, and then set on a shelf to be displayed until further needed with more stability than just its own legs would afford it.

      i think you are right

Yet he still could have been hinting at it, using those figurines instead of the actual ones (probably not yet finalised)…
It does make more and more sense.

Nope, He was just showing off his collection of awesome video game stuff. Assuming the NFC figures are utlizing the tech on the Wii U gamepad they can’t be much bigger than the figures that came with Pokemon rumble U.
