Tecmo Koei expects to sell one million copies of Hyrule Warriors!
I know many will agree that Hyrule Warriors is a weird crossover. Combining two franchises so far apart certainly sounds crazy, especially when one of the said franchises is considered to be one of the best video game IP’s of all time. However, even crazy sometimes makes sense.
The Japanese publication, Nikkei Trendy, recently got the opportunity to sit down with Tecmo Games President – Yoichi Erikawa. One of the topic discussed during the interview – is the collaboration title with Nintendo, Hyrule Warriors.
Firstly, Tecmo plans to release the title during the summer (Japan season). “In gaming, this is a first-time collaboration. As a new entry in the Warriors series, we plan to release the game Hyrule Warriors in collaboration with Nintendo in the summer of this year” said Erikawa.
Furthermore, Erikawa is optimistic that the title will be able to sell one million couples, by leveraging the brand strength of Zelda and the dedicated fan base of the Warriors series. Erikawas says “In addition to our Warriors series fan base, Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda is also a very popular series with a large fan base, and I think it will become a great new market. Because of The Legend of Zelda’s legion of fans overseas, we are aiming to sell more than one million copies worldwide.”
I expect Hyrule Warriors to move a few systems in Japan. However, with the Zelda Branding behind the game – it could do relatively well in the west, particularly in certain European states. Besides – the more games the better. Right?
