Level-5′s monster hit Yōkai Watch will be getting a new instalments – in Yokai Watch 2 which will launch on July 2 in the land of the Rising Sun. Best of all – it is exclusive for the Nintendo 3DS. The news broke from the latest issue of the insanely popular – Coro Coro Magazine.

yokai watch 2For those unfamiliar with the series,  Yōkai Watch has similarities to Nintendo’s mainline Pokemon games. You play as Keita Amano – whom has been given a device called the Yōkai Watch – which allows him to identify, battle and capture ill-intentioned Yōkai’s (in Japanese folklore are Phantom Spirits).

Like Nintendo’s Pokemon series – Yōkai Watch 2 will ship 2 versions: Yokai Watch 2: Ganso (Founder) and Yokai Watch 2: Honke (Head). According to Animenetwork, Yōkai Watch 2 will explore the origin of the mysterious device and will see the return of Keita. In terms of key difference between the two versions –  Gematsu  says the two versions will have distinct Yōkai Medals exclusive to the respective game.

Honestly, despite the Vita’s latest attack on Nintendo’s market , by that I mean the strong wave of Japanese niche games – the 3DS will continue its domination, particularly with Persona Q, Monster Hunter 4G, Super Smash Bros For 3DS and now Yōkai Watch 2- all launching this year. I just wish the Wii U got some Yōkai Watch love.
