Mega Venusaur

Mega Venusaur Analysis, Movesets and More

When Venusaur becomes Mega Venusaur, the flower on the Pokémon’s back blooms even more fantastically than before. Its legs and frame becomes more sturdy to support the weight of the huge flower.

Venusaur gets a nice boost with a mega evolution. When Venusaur becomes Mega Venusaur, it’s base stat in special defense and defense. With the availability of moves like leech seed and sleep powder – Mega Venusaur becomes a potent support Pokemon for any competitive team.

Competitive Value

Looking for a good movest

Like I mentioned above, Mega Venusaur certainly has the stats and movepool to serve a variety of roles in a competitive team. Since the metagame is still in its early stage – I feel like experimentation is a good way to go about things when creating a competitive team. Hence, most of these moveset are experimentation’s based on years of Shoddy and PO.

Lead Mega Venusaur @ Venusaurnite

EVS: 252 HP, 252 Speed, 4 Sp Attack

Timid Nature, Ability: Thick Fat

  • Sleep Powder
  • Leech Seed
  • Grass Knot/Giga Drain
  • Forthcoming (Sludge Bomb/Hidden Power Fire)

This is the build that I am currently working on right now. It serves as a defensive backbone when paired with a Gyarodos or Slowbro. 252 HP EV is necessary to give Mega Venusaur the necessary bulk with the speed EV’s to catch the opponent off guard with a Sleep Powder.

Like the moveset title suggests, this Mega Venusaur role is to serve as an effective lead using the combination of sleep powder and Leech Seed to force switches, effectively scouting the opponents team.

Offensive Mega Venusaur @ Venusaurite

EVS: 4hp, 252 Sp Attk, 252 Spd

  • Growth
  • Giga Drain
  • Sludge Bomb
  • Hidden Power Fire

It is very difficult to ignore that high Special attack base attack of Mega Venusaur. Now this is untested in battle, but an offensive Venusaur is viable. The strategy is simple, switch into a bulky water, and set up by using growth. Giga drain is the main form of attack with the added benefit of regaining HP. Sludge Bomb hits grass types for super effectively and does neutral damage to incoming flying Type. Hidden Power Fire is necessary to hit steel type – whom otherwise wall this set.

Wanna be Celebi

Mega Venusaur @ Venusaurite

EVS: 252 HP, 252 def, 4 Sp Attk

Bold nature, Ability: Thick Fat

  • Leech Seed
  • Sleep Powder/Synthesis
  • Giga drain/Grass Knot
  • Hidden Power Fire

With the gained ability, Thick Fat, Mega Venusaur looses two vital weaknesses. The grass/poison typing in combination with the defensive stat – Mega Venusaur is a viable tank.

The metagame is still young and as such these moveset could be inefficient. Regardless, I like to experiment in competitive battles, often not following Smogon Pokemon strategies and still be relatively successful. By the way check them out – if you like to get into competitive Pokemon.

  • Dr.Teabag

    I’d try something like this

    Pure wall

EVS: 252 HP, 172 Special Defence, 84 Defence

    Sleep Powder
    Leech Seed
    Giga Drain

Imagin trying to take out this monster with leech seed + giga drain. All that damage will rack up as well with toxic + leech seed.
