The Pikmin series is often considered a niche – with a relatively small fan base compared to Nintendo’s other more recognized franchises. Nintendo has been pushing Pikmin 3 harder than usual with 3 very good commercials for the Japanese market and an above average commercial for North America. It seems Nintendo’s hard work is paying off. The Japanese retailer Tsutaya has reported that Pikmin 3 is doing well in the charts.
Taketo Matsuo, Director of the Game Rental Planning Group at Japanese retailer Tsutaya is delighted with the performance of Pikmin 3 and as a result Wii U has been given a boost.
Taketo Matsuo said:
Pikmin 3, that came out nine years after Pikmin 2, is having a really good start. Sales at Tsutaya are comparable to the release of Super Mario Bros U and have driven greater sales of Wii U units
This is welcoming news. Hopefully, Pikmin 3 can give the Wii U a prolonged boost in the charts in Japan. More importantly, a much needed boost world wide. Pikmin 3 will be out July 26th for Europe, July 27th in Australia and August 4 for NA.
