Pokemon of the Day: Mega Blastoise

The Shellfish Pokemon is back – now even more powerful and potent with Mega Blastoise. While most Pokemon fans favor Charizard as the starter Pokemon of choice, Blastoise has and always will be my favorite starter of the first generation.
Unfortunately, in competitive play (referring to Gen 4 and Gen 5) Blastoise has been vastly outclassed as a bulky Water with Vaporeon, Suicune, Milotic, Rotom-W and Jellicent providing more utility than Blastoise. However, I don’t see this being the case with Generation 6, thanks to mega evolutions.
Mega Blastoise will give the aforementioned water Pokemon a run for their money. Mega Blastoise has the offensive and defensive stats to perform well in any environmnet. With Rapid Spin being such an important move to remove entry hazards such as stealth rocks and spikes – Mega Blastoise might be the premier rapid spinner.

Rapid Spin Mega Blastoise @ Blastoisinite
EVS; 252 HP, 252 Special Attack
Ability: Mega Launcher, Nature: Modest
- Rapid Spin
- Water Pulse
- Dark Pulse
- Ice Beam
The set’s main goal is remove stealth rocks and spikes with rapid spin. Surf is a great stab and Ice beam is to hande grass types that will attempt to switch in. The combination of Mega Launcher and dark pulse will hit hard to any pesky bulky ghost that attempt to block the spin. HP ev’s is essential to give Mega Blastoise optimal bulk with evs in special attack to hit hard.
