Today on Miiverse, director Masahiro Sakura announced that Castle Siege from Brawl, will be a returning stage in Super Smash Bros. For Wii U. Veteran fans will instantly receognize this stage, however, you may not the background behind the design philosophy of the Castle Siege.

“Well, I’d better post some pictures from the Wii U version once in a while, right? We’ve brought back the Castle Siege stage from Fire Emblem!” Sakurai wrote on Miiverse.

In his post, Sakurai revealed that Castle Siege and and the new stage – the Colosseum – were not inspired by a specific venue and site in any Fire Emblem game, as there are two many unique settings and not to mention that fields don’t have height.

“Most of the games in the Fire Emblem series have a different unique setting and have fields without much height, so it was hard to narrow down what venues to focus on. Castle Siege and Colosseum are two stages that aren’t exclusive to specific games in the franchise.”

Super Smash Bros For Wii U is due for release during the holiday season.
