Pokemon of the Day: Mega Heracross

Mega Heracross is a whole different monster from its normal form. In terms of stats, Mega Heracross gains a huge boost in attack and respectable upgrades in the defense departments. Unfortunately, with the upgrade Mega Heracross loses some speed, which effectively make him a tank like Pokemon.

Furthermore, Mega Heracross gains the neat ability “Skill Link” which grants him a few powerful moves like Pin Missile, Rock Blast and Arm Thrust.

Since, Mega Heracross lack the speed to sweep effectively – it’s likely role will be wall breaking.

All out attacker Mega Heracross. @ Heracronite

EVS: 252 Attack, 252 speed, 4 HP

Ability: Skill Link, Nature: Adamant

  • Close Combat
  • Rock Blast
  • Pin Missile
  • Bullet Seed

With Mega Heracross’ monstrous attack stat, it can easily dent any walls denting switching in. Close Combat is Mega Heracross’ best stab – Arm Thrust is tempting to take advantage of Skill Link, but it simply is not necessary. Pin Missile is a suberb stab, that beats Mega Horn by 5 points – plus it has better accuracy. Rock Blast is to handle any flying Pokemon that wish to soak up Close Combat and Pin Missile. Bullet Seed maybe useful against Jellicent and Hippowdon.

Sword Dance Mega Heracross. @ Heracronite

EVS: 252 Attack, 252 speed, 4 HP

Ability: Skill Link, Nature: Adamant/Jolly

  • Close Combat
  • Rock Blast
  • Pin Missile
  • Sword Dance

A Sword Dance Mega Heracross can work with the necessary support. For this set to work you will need to play according to a strategy that will set up a sweep for Mega Heracross. So you might want to consider paralysis support and a team that can effectively take out fast threats. Where Mega Heracross will succeed is against stall teams, where effectively all Pokemon are slow Pokemon. With a Sword Dance Mega Heracross can easily tear all the walls into pieces.
