President of Nintedo America has crawled out his hole and made an appearance at GT.TV last night. The EP had a strong emphasis on Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze, luckily Keighley was able to squeeze out a few hard answerss out of Reggie.

In regards to Wii U’s future, Reggie remains adamant that key titles will be able to spark sales growth for the Wii U. Reggie also explained that they have a constant marketing present and a constant pace of games throughout 2014.

The way we’re going to be different is… we’re certainly going to have a steadier pace of games, both for Wii U and for 3DS. The marketing activity is going to be constant throughout the entire year; you teased me a little bit about “boy, the first half was a little quiet” and, you know what? You look back and it was. We’re not going to be making that same mistake in 2014, so the pace, the ongoing activity, touching the consumer and messaging what we’re all about, that’s going to be a big difference next year.

Reggie made a bold statement, calling Super Mario 3D World, Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart will be in the top 10 best selling games of the new generation.

It’s all about install base, and it’s all about having a top-shelf game that sells over a long period of time. The fact of the matter is, games that Super Mario 3D World, games like Mario Kart on Wii U, games like Smash Bros. on Wii U, they’re going to have a fantastic sales curve over time. I can guarantee, those games, in this generation that is about to start, are going to be top 10 selling games across the entire generation, selling only on one platform. I can guarantee it.

… I’m calling it right now.

I’m not sure about that statement, but it is good to see Nintendo standing firm and confident. Never cower to the cower without putting up a fight.

Interestingly, Keighley and Reggie teased a special surprise at the VGX.

Haha that’s Reggie alright. I’m really hoping that what he says turns out to be true. I mean those games all have the potential to be top selling games and well if quality software and continual messaging is coming out than the install base for the Wii U might just become big enough to allow that to happen.
